Compare and contrast the Articles of Confederation and the Constitution, especially in regard to the specific powers granted by each to the national government.

The Articles of Confederation proved to be an ineffective Constitution for the United States , as it did not afford the Federal Government sufficient authority to accomplish its stated aims . While there were some similarities between the Articles of Confederation , the differences far outweighed the similarities , especially in the area of Federal power and effectiveness . There were some similarities between the Articles of Confederation and the U .S . Constitution . Both called for the formation of a national government . Both also contained a Congress for making laws (Kennedy ,Cohen Bailey , 2004 ) Both constitutions gave congress the authority to impose taxes .
