The inclusion of women in competitive sports dates back to the onset of competitive sports itself although the issue of equality between men and women has always come up . Like all other professions ,there has developed overtime , a women philosophy of sports . Such sport philosophy is responsible for the many women sports , which have been witnessed since the 19th century . As a result , the goal of sports is often overlooked by those differences , which emerge between sports leaders . This is often a cause for worry during major sports events which brings together men and women and therefore requires both leaders to have compatible programs to deal with the issue . Separation of men and women in competitive sports has been seen as a way of upholding gender equity . Separation of men and women in competitive sports grants women a unique opportunity to advance their cause especially in the fight against gender discrimination and women rights .
