Running Head : HEALTH PROMOTION .Rationalizing Health Promotion Program Name :Course :University :Tutor :Date :Background Information Malaria has been recognized as a leading killer in the world only equaled in its killing potency by AIDS . Over a million deaths occur in the world each year as a result of malaria and related complications .The 2005 world malaria report (CDC , 2004 ) indicates that over 3 billion persons worldwide are living under a great risk of transmitting malaria .Africa is the most affected continent in the whole world with 80 death cases resulting from malaria coming from there , especially in the south of Sahara . Malaria continues to kill many children in Africa and effective measures are yet to be put to minimize death cases . The past cases of malaria transmission and the laid down measures indicate that the situation is grim and shall continue to be for a long time unless bold steps are initiated to curb the menace . The recent past has seen huge allocations by the world Health Organization (WHO ) the United States of America and many NGOs to try and alleviate the situation in Africa . Stringent measures are being put down day in day out in an effort to reduce the amount of death cases resulting from malaria .Fighting malaria requires combined efforts from all stakeholders : The governments , international organizations and the local populations .Strategies need to be laid down to create awareness on cost effective measures to be taken in fighting malaria in Africa . Efforts being put to develop cheap , affordable and effective vaccines are a step in the right direction , however campaigns at the moment should be enhanced towards the utilization of what is locally available . This is the only way that the battle against malaria shall be won . One of the most effective tools in this case to create awareness would be the media .Introduction This paper has a purpose of providing a recommendation framework of how to successfully an anti-malaria promotion campaign can be conducted as well as designing one . Nigeria has been identified as one of the countries in Africa facing a serious challenge from malaria deaths with a record of over 30 percent of childhood mortality being attributed to malaria (Uzodinna A , 2004 . Despite its huge prevalence rate , it still remains one of the most costly diseases to maintain with a huge socio-economic price on the Nigerian government , losing over 50 million dollars per year (AFM , 2007 . Major malaria campaigns have been enrolled to fight malaria in Nigeria ,spearheaded by the international community and the Nigerian government itself . The non government organizations and prominent individuals have chipped in with contributions and mass campaigns aimed at creating awareness of preventive measures to be put in the pipeline to curb malaria transmission . Sound Health Initiative is such an organization with a huge interest to seeing the end of malaria not just in Nigeria but also within Africa .
