Starting Early : Infants Milestones and Social /Emotional Development While getting ready for an early morning observation , the author recalled a text that she came across the night before from Michael J .Rustin (1997 ) who pointed out that infant observations can become a source of explicit support for some mothers :The most positive aspect of in the most positive aspect of infant observation from the point of view of the families observed seems usually to be that it provides an additional reflective space for the mother in particular . Details regarding the child ‘s behavior , mood , and relations to others , including interactions with the mother and guest are discuss .Luann just woke up when the author arrived to their house . He was sitting on the couch watching Dora , the Explorer while her mom is preparing food for him . There is no one in the house except Luann and his mom . His Dad and two sisters just left the house . His mom gave me an early warning that Luann is not in his best in the morning especially on mealtime . He just woke up and bottle-fed throughout the night , so ,feeding him might be a little tedious . She said that it is really the trend .Luann started to be independent by eight months , he could already walk with minimal assistance , at 14 months , he could move around the house with ease . Everytime there ‘s a break from Dora ‘s series , he would go to his mom and point towards the author . His mom indicated Luann might be getting used to my presence .Meal time : Luann ‘s mom indicated that he has to eat at the living room in front of the television or else it will take them ages to complete the breakfast . The writer inquired why would insist in feeding if Luann is still full from last night ‘s bottle-feeding . Luann ‘s mom explained that she wanted to insist on a three-meal a day policy .True to her word , timing plays a great role in feeding Luann . He would take one spoonful every after one session of Dora . In between the show ,he may take spoonfuls but he must initiate it . If his mom tries to give him a spoonful , he won ‘t definitely open his mouth .Luann is very wonderful to observe , he is neither conscious nor too participative , so one can really capture data in its purest sense . Luann is very close to his mom . It seems that she has mastered as well on how to make Luann eat . There are instances when his mom would just stare at him because he refused to open his mouth , he would get up , get that spoonful , will try to eat it , and hug his mom .
